Wines

Tin Roof Cellars 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a wine of a somewhat lackluster effort and you might want to ignore the marketing blurb on the back label. You could do worse, but frankly, there are other better choices out there.

Osborne 2005 Solaz Spain

An all around nice wine. You can drink it alone (but really, who likes to drink alone?) or you can pair it with food. Try it with roasted pork or some salted, dry roasted pistachios.

Twin Fin 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon California

It’s something of a surprise, this wine. I’m not much of a Cab drinker, but this one is better than many I drink in this price range. Enjoy, perhaps with some dark chocolate.

Tisdale Merlot California

Mellow, soft, and very tasty. While it doesn't have great depth or intensity, it is an all around 'great' drinking and companion wine. Pick a young immature sprite to drink this with. And at this price, it also good for a night of carousing.

Joe Blow 2005 Red Wine California

For seven dollars and a blended wine you could do a lot worse than this one. Certainly a better wine than the Joe Blow Chardonnay tasted earlier. I’ve not tasted anything quite like this since the Relax Red I had a while back. Enjoy some today!

Joe Blow 2005 White Wine California

Cheap, but not one you’ll want to trot out as the first bottle. Maybe the third bottle, however when no-one’s looking. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Alice White 2006 Chardonnay Australia

It’s a wine that is lackluster at best. Another word might be “blah”. Not one I’d recommend for sipping or with dinner. Other Chardonnays for the price are better choices. Try them first.

Arrow Creek 2006 Pinot Noir France

As Pinot’s go, not a bad one. Higher grades might have been garnered if there was a more intense aroma. Otherwise, drink it up!

Talus 2005 Pinot Noir California

The wine has some positive points, but it’s tannins at the end give this wine a lesser grade. I guess for $7 you really can’t expect too much. Some better wine choices, if more expensive, are Dynamite 2004, Cline 2005, Zinfatuation 2005 (only available at World Market.)

Tormaresca 2006 Chardonnay Italy

This one tasted better in the store than at home. Not a bad wine by any stretch of the imagination, just not what I remembered tasting in the store. Did I somehow get the wrong bottle?

Carro Tinto 2006 Red Wine Yelca Spain

Overall it’s a pleasant sipping wine and ok with a lighter dinner. I’m partial to lighter reds, and this one fits the bill!

Arrow Creek 2005 Chardonnay California

It’s a passable white wine for most occasions. Sipable, if the 2nd bottle you open for the evening. It would be ok for dinner too, but don’t tax it too much.

Domaine Calvel 2004 Red Wine Corbieres France

It’s a pleasant wine, if not a particularly inspiring one. Good with dinner and in a pinch, sipping on its own if needed.

Alice White 2007 Cabernet-Shiraz Australia

One of a rainbow – and I mean do mean rainbow – of wines from these guys. When all the varieties are all lined up together it makes a rainbow from one end of the spectrum to the other. This one isn’t bad for the price but another year might help it or some aeration.

Devour 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a pedestrian wine, at best. Better for dinner than sipping by itself, perhaps. It’s one of many I’ve had of late. In a word, don’t Devour.
