Cabernet Sauvignon

It’s something of a surprise, this wine. I’m not much of a Cab drinker, but this one is better than many I drink in this price range. Enjoy, perhaps with some dark chocolate.

Nice and spicy, like the young maiden it should be served to. Tart, tasty, nimble, and highly energetic; you could do much worse with a bed partner or a wine.

Nothing to like, nothing to dislike. Make it your second bottle of the evening, so the alcohol of the first bottle dulls your taste buds and masks the finish. It goes well with black cherries. Oddly it will probably go well with cinnamon rolls.

It shouldn't be drunk by itself. Alone it's tart and bitter, but combined with roasted chicken, blue cheese, and avocado, it's surprisingly good. Which is generally the key with cheap wine, find a complement to overcome its swill shortcomings.

It’s an OK wine now, but a year from now might be better. And don’t forget to let it BREATH. Twenty minutes really seems to help!

At best this is a marginal wine from South Africa more from there than other places, except maybe Chile. Another year might help, but I tend to doubt it. Look further afield.

A drinking/sipping wine, not a food wine, but missing on at least one cylinder and it’s available only through Costco.

Just in time for All Hallows Eve, (a.k.a. Halloween). There are several varieties under this label, the cab being one of them. I’m feeling I’ve should have chosen one of the others. NOTE: uses a plastic cork, if that makes a difference to you.

What a dog, literally. Their Chardonnay, frankly, got much higher marks. This wine might be best suited to give to someone you really don’t like very much, unless they are dog lovers, and maybe not even then. I’m not sure I’d even want to cook with it. For the price, look elsewhere. Woof!

It’s a clandestine review at upscale local watering hole. Surprisingly, it tastes more expensive than it is.

Not a bad wine, but one that could do with another year to two before drinking, if possible.

OK. So this is the 3rd bottle my editor has forced me to taste and report on this day. Not that I mind, because it’s not bad. But at this rate, my accuracy could be called into question, and soon.

Ok, I’ll be the first to tell you this is a REALLY cheap wine. I got it on sale for $3.00. Still, it’s not a really bad choice for the price. And not your typical Cab.

I’ve had a bad run of luck with wines from Chile of late. This one is decidedly in the plus column. It’s a good representation of a Cab for the price. Drink it alone, or with a sturdy beef dish. This is one I wouldn’t mind trying in another year.
