Chardonnay

McManis 2006 Chardonnay California

The McManis is a McMiss, in a big way. It’s another in a series of lousy white McWines. I'm not sure you'd want to even serve it with dinner.

Castle Rock 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s another wine in a long, long series of late of sturdy, if unspectacular white wines. It may be time to switch to reds for a while. This one isn’t bad, just not particularly special.

Pine & Post 2004 Chardonnay Washington

Pine & Post is taken pillar to post with this review. Not a sipping wine to be sure, but better with a dinner more that anything else. May I suggest perhaps Chicken Saltimbocca? Better wine choices for the price: Fisheye 2004 or Crane Lake 2004. Both wines are $6 or less.

Excelsior 2007 Chardonnay South Africa

Overall, this wine is not really a sipping wine. It’s best suited to a dinner requiring it’s acidity to bring something to the party. Otherwise you might want to look elsewhere.

Gallo Sonoma Reserve 2005 Chardonnay California

Honestly, for the price, you can do better. The Sebeka 2006 Chardonnay I tried earlier is a better choice, and for less money, IMHO. Try that one instead.

The Little Penguin 2005 Chardonnay Australia

It’s a modest effort by this winery. Not overly aggressive, this wine doesn’t try too hard to please but it’s not terrible either. Another in a series of so-so wines I’ve had of late.

Sebeka 2006 Chardonnay South Africa

Another “theme” wine from South Africa. On this one there’s a picture of a cheetah – in full run – on the label and they even follow through with cute cheetah print spotting on the fake cork. What’s inside? Surprisingly, it’s a pretty good wine. I’ve had worse from South Africa.

Mirassou 2005 Chardonnay California

It’s a so-so wine at best. Not bad, but nothing special either. Good with dinner perhaps as the acidity will help cut through most light fare.

Arbor Mist Peach Chardonnay New York

This wine is one of many choices from this “winery.” Popular? Sure. Drinkable? I guess so. But do you really want a wine that has a nutrition label on it? If you are looking for a sweet wine to drink, why not consider Bogle Chenin Blanc, or a Ste Genevieve or DeLoach white zinfandel. You deserve better!

Screw Kappa Nappa 2005 Chardonnay California

A wine reviewed while whiling away the hours at a local Austin watering hole. Not a spectacular wine, as it needs (at least for me) something more for my taste buds. But you have to love the name, and yes, it does have a screw cap closure.

Black Swan 2006 Chardonnay Australia

In a word, lousy! Try Hayes Ranch, Coppola Gold Label, Kendall Jackson or Dynamite for a chardonnay, or their Shiraz-Cabernet, which is much better.

LaTerre 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a review from a somewhat up scale watering hole. Obtained clandestinely, of course! On balance, a pretty balanced wine….

Ste. Chateau Michelle 2005 Chardonnay Washington

It’s a good effort, at least in my humble opinion and a better sipping wine than a dinner wine. Something with more subtle notes would have scored higher.

Electric Reindeer NV Chardonnay

Just in time for Christmas, a wine for the holidays and maybe the New Year. It’s one of several varieties from these folks. Sadly, it’s only so-so as wine goes.

Turning Leaf 2006 Chardonnay

It’s an another wine from the Gallo stable, this one a white. Good for sipping but perhaps not for dinner.
