Ron Paul
Demand for Tax Fairness, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Mon, 2024-10-29 00:00.Washington, DC - Congressman Ron Paul has signed on to a letter directed to the leadership of the House Ways and Means Committee asking them to continue allowing sales taxes to be deductible on Federal Income Tax returns. This deduction is set to expire at the end of this year.
State income taxes are deductible on federal income tax returns, however Texas and six other states do not have a state income tax, relying instead on sales taxes for revenue. This puts residents of these states on unequal footing if the sales tax deduction is allowed to expire.
Struggling for Relevance in Cuba: Close, Still No Cigars, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by M.J. Taylor on Sun, 2024-10-28 00:00.Since Raul Castro seems to be transitioning to a more permanent position of power, the administration has begun talking about Cuba policy again. One would think we would be able to survey the results of the last 45 years and come to logical conclusions. Changing course never seems to be an option, however, no matter how futile or counterproductive our past actions have been.
The Cuban embargo began officially in 1962 as a means to put pressure on the communist dictatorship to change its ways. After 45 years, the Cuban economy has struggled, but Cuba 's dictatorship is no closer to stepping to the beat of our drum. Any ailments have consistently and successfully been blamed on US Capitalism instead of Cuban Communism. They have substituted trade with others for trade with the US , and are "awash" with development funds from abroad. Our isolationist policies with regards to Cuba , meanwhile, have hardly won the hearts and minds of Cubans or Cuban-Americans, many of whom are isolated from families because this political animosity.
Interventionism? Isolationism? Actually, both., by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Sun, 2024-10-21 00:00.A few months back, I wrote back-to-back weekly messages regarding globalism and isolationism. In writing those columns, I focused on the fact that our nation’s interventionist foreign policy was precisely what was isolating us from other countries.
Turkey’s recall of their U.S. ambassador in the wake of last week’s resolution, passed in the House Foreign Affairs Committee in condemnation of Turkey, is a perfect example of what I wrote in those columns, as well as what I have been saying for years.
The House has passed similar resolutions for years, praising some foreign countries or political groups while chastising others. It is my policy to vote against resolutions of this sort whenever they have the impact of placing our country in the middle of an internal political problem of some other nation, or involving us in some regional conflict. In fact, this is almost always the specific intent of resolutions of this sort. Often, I am the only Member of Congress to vote against these resolutions.
Moratorium on Internet Taxation, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Wed, 2024-10-17 00:00.Washington , DC - Congressman Ron Paul voted this week to extend the moratorium on internet taxation for another four years. The Internet Tax Freedom Act passed decisively 405-2 to continue to ban state and local governments from levying taxes on the internet and electronic commerce.
If the bill gains passage in the Senate and is signed by the President, this will mark the third extension of the original moratorium enacted in 1998.
Domestic and International Monetary Policy, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Wed, 2024-10-17 00:00.Mr. Chairman, as you know, I have consistently favored a policy of non-intervention with regard both to foreign affairs and to economic policy. While there may well be problems with the Russian economy in terms of failed privatization, government expropriation of assets, etc., there is no reason that these issues should concern the United States government.
Foreign nations could easily criticize the United States for its weak dollar policy which favors our exporting industries while harming the exporting industries of our trading partners; for our eminent domain policies which make a mockery of property rights; and for Sarbanes-Oxley, which unfairly burdens companies operating in this country and causes companies to move to foreign capital markets. We would understandably resent this intrusion into our affairs.
Cosponsors "Taxpayer Choice Act", by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Tue, 2024-10-16 00:00.Washington, DC - Congressman Ron Paul has signed on to co-sponsor legislation that will repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax on individuals and replace it with an alternative, simplified tax that individuals may choose.
The Taxpayer Choice Act of 2007 H.R. 3818 would completely repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax, which was originally enacted to impose taxes on a small number (originally only 155) of the wealthiest Americans. Because the tax is not indexed to inflation, more and more Americans are falling under the AMT trap. Temporary increases in the exemption amount have been extended until the end of 2010. If the AMT is not repealed, 50 million taxpayers will be affected within a decade, up from 3.5 million in 2006.
American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Mon, 2024-10-15 00:00.Mr. Speaker, today I am introducing a comprehensive piece of legislation to restore the American Constitution and to restore the liberties that have been sadly eroded over the past several years.
This legislation seeks to restore the checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution by our Founding Fathers to prevent abuse of Americans by their government. This proposed legislation would repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006 and re-establish the traditional practice that military commissions may be used to try war crimes in places of active hostility where a rapid trial is necessary to preserve evidence or prevent chaos.
Taxing Ourselves to Death, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Sun, 2024-10-14 00:00.This past week, Congress had an opportunity to permanently repeal the death tax by amending the Tax Collection Responsibility Act of 2007 to include language that ends the estate tax forever. This would have been a good provision in an overall bad bill. 212 Democrats were enough to keep this spectre looming on the horizon if the Bush tax cuts are not renewed in 2011. The bill passed without this silver lining and now we face big in increases taxes and penalties in the next five years.
The underlying attitude behind this bill, and the estate tax, is what I find so distressing about tax policy in this country today - that being a growing disregard for property rights, which are so important to the American dream.
The Enemy Within: Cato and its Covert Agenda
Submitted by The Melinda on Thu, 2024-10-11 14:29.They pretend to be all about freedom. But the fact is they are just scumbag NeoCon hires. For 30 years Cato has been the barrier to the coalition, right to left, that makes freedom in America possible.
Ron Paul is an honest, straight forward man, very unlike those associated with Cato. The Ron Paul Campaign is about getting local communities out of the grasp of federal control.

Keeping Promises to Seniors, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Sun, 2024-10-07 00:00.With our country's finances stretched thin, our credit limit fast approaching, and our currency inflated to the breaking point, there is no indication yet of any urgency on the part of Congress to rein in spending. The predictable answer to the government's voracious spending habits is this week’s proposal by some Democratic Congressional leaders for tax increases to pay for operations in Iraq . Here at home, however, there are promises our seniors heavily rely upon. We must keep these promises.
An analysis of the Social Security "Trust Fund" shows we are not doing a credible job of keeping these promises. Official reports show the trust fund having assets of $2.1 trillion. In reality, those dollars are just IOUs the government is writing to itself when it borrows from the fund to spend on unrelated programs. There are no real assets in the Social Security Trust Fund. This is similar to taking money out of your savings account, spending it, then replacing it with an IOU to yourself, and calling that IOU an asset.
Latest attempt to stop Ron Paul, Register Now
Submitted by M.J. Taylor on Thu, 2024-10-04 11:25.From the "Anything to keep power" cabal, comes the latest on how to screw Dr. Ron Paul...
Many states, in an effort to shut out Ron Paul are now closing their primaries. That means that only Republicans can vote in the Presidential primaries for a Republican candidate. Many states are doing this quickly and quietly and giving people very little time to learn about the new rules. For example, New Hampshire decided only a week ago that you will now have to change your party affiliation by October 12, 2024 or it will be too late to do so. New Hampshire also has a closed primary and only Republicans and possibly Independents will be allowed to vote for Ron Paul.
Statement on Burma, H Con Res 200, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Tue, 2024-10-02 00:00.Madame Speaker, I rise in opposition to this legislation not because I do not sympathize with the plight of the oppressed people of Burma , particularly as demonstrated by the continued confinement of Aung San Suu Kyi. Any time a government represses its citizenry it is reprehensible. My objection to this legislation is twofold. First, the legislation calls on the United Nations Security Council to “take appropriate action” with regard to Burma and its internal conditions. This sounds like an open door for an outside military intervention under the auspices of the United Nations, which is something I do not support.
Congressional Control of Health Care is Dangerous for Children, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Sun, 2024-09-30 00:00.This week Congress is again grasping for more control over the health of American children with the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Parents who think federally subsidized health care might be a good idea should be careful what they wish for.
Despite political rhetoric about a War on Drugs, federally-funded programs result in far more teenage drug use than the most successful pill pusher on the playground. These pills are given out as a result of dubious universal mental health screening programs for school children, supposedly directed toward finding mental disorders or suicidal tendencies. The use of antipsychotic medication in children has increased fivefold between 1995 and 2002. More than 2.5 million children are now taking these medications, and many children are taking multiple drugs at one time.
The Tax Free Tips Act, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Thu, 2024-09-27 00:00.The Tax Free Tips Act of 2007 H.R. 3664 would exempt tips and gratuities from federal income and payroll taxes. Tips often compose a substantial portion of the earnings of waiters, waitresses, and other service-sector employees. However, unlike regular wages, a service-sector employee usually has no guarantee of, or legal right to, a tip. Instead, the amount of a tip usually depends on how well an employee satisfies a client. Since the amount of taxes one pays increases along with the size of tip, taxing tips punishes workers for doing a superior job!
The Money Has to Come From Somewhere, by US Rep. Ron Paul
Submitted by Staff on Sun, 2024-09-23 00:00.After the current turmoil in the markets, I was hoping that new Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke would see the big picture and act judiciously. Instead he signaled, with an aggressive rate cut, that we can expect a continuation of the monetary policies that got us here to begin with. Alan Greenspan released his memoir this week explaining his policies and decisions in the wake of the irrational exuberance they fueled. His successor should see that it is now time for a change of policy that addresses the root of our troubles. But instead of seeing an inflation problem, the Federal Reserve sees a liquidity problem, which is a little like extinguishing a forest fire with gasoline. In the wake of the rate cut, the Dow jumped and brokers cheered. Behind the headlines, however, the dollar quietly fell and was abandoned by more of the world in favor of more solid stores of wealth.
