Timbuktu 2006 Blend South Australia

Not a bad wine. In fact it’s as good as a $25 bottle of wine I reviewed here earlier. But what is it with this name? At this rate why not a wine named “Lost Horizons”, Zanzibar or Marrakesh? Soon they’ll have to start naming wines after song titles. Anyone for a bottle of “Begin the Beguine?”

This wine is a concoction (OK, blend) of five different South Australian whites. It has a very pale straw yellow to yellow color – it reminds me of a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio -- with no “legs” of any kind to speak of. It has some definite citrus notes – think grapefruit -- especially when it’s cold, with some fruit notes underneath the citrus after it has warmed up a slightly. And a hint of vanilla, but that was much later. There’s some moderate acidity very low sweetness, a good balance (the extra acidity doesn’t help) and a medium finish. It would work well by itself or with food. Don't serve this wine too cold. And don't be put off too much by the screw top cap.
