Rosemount Estate 2004 Riesling South Eastern Australia

Not my expectation of a Riesling and I dare say probably not yours either. It has some decided problems and honestly, you could do better with just about anything else. Try some Schmitt-Sohne. It's more expensive, but it got a much better grade.

Little Penguin 2005 Merlot Australia

This isn't the best wine in the world, but it could be a lot worse for the price. Good for an evening of debauchery at your local tavern or plying a wood or mountain nymph at home. It's not refined enough for water sprites.

Mirassou 2005 Chardonnay California

It’s a so-so wine at best. Not bad, but nothing special either. Good with dinner perhaps as the acidity will help cut through most light fare.

Turning Leaf 2005 Pinot Noir California

If your nymph is lacking in refinement, then this is the wine for you. It's cheap, goes down easy and just a little accompaniment will mask its flaws. Good for all nighters as well.

Maison Nicolas 2005 Merlot France

Cheap French wines rarely let you down, and this is no exception. It has a nice neutral balance with enough bite to clear the palette during dinner.

Black Trail 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Chile

Nothing to like, nothing to dislike. Make it your second bottle of the evening, so the alcohol of the first bottle dulls your taste buds and masks the finish. It goes well with black cherries. Oddly it will probably go well with cinnamon rolls.

La Vieille Ferme 2005 Red Blend France

Another cheap French wine, another satisfied customer. It's not complex, but it does hit the spot. Goes well with pistachios, but with it's neutrality and table red base, it would probably go decently with almost anything with a bit of flavor or spice. I wouldn't suggest drinking this with either pairs or apples.

LaTerre 2006 Chardonnay California

It’s a review from a somewhat up scale watering hole. Obtained clandestinely, of course! On balance, a pretty balanced wine….

Aaku 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Australia

It’s an OK wine now, but a year from now might be better. And don’t forget to let it BREATH. Twenty minutes really seems to help!

Turning Leaf Reserve 2005 Pinot Grigio California

It’s probably a perfect wine for next summer. Light, airy, not too sweet, and something of a wet finish. I’ve you’ve been drinking wine coolers of late (Arbor Mist comes to mind), this might be worthy replacement.

Electric Reindeer NV Chardonnay

Just in time for Christmas, a wine for the holidays and maybe the New Year. It’s one of several varieties from these folks. Sadly, it’s only so-so as wine goes.

Excelsior 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon South Africa

At best this is a marginal wine from South Africa more from there than other places, except maybe Chile. Another year might help, but I tend to doubt it. Look further afield.

Mirassou 2006 Pinot Noir California

It’s another clandestine review at a local eatery. (Johnny Carrino’s) Drinkable, but frankly you might do better with their house wines than this one. Although if you are looking for a floor show, the waiter removing the cork (which appeared to be a reconstituted variety) made for some entertainment as it broke in the bottle while he was removing it. Sadly, that was the highlight for this wine.

Meridian 2005 Chardonnay Santa Barbara California

For the price, it’s not a bad drinking wine. It might also be a good choice for a light lunch.

GatoNegro 2006 Cabernet Merlot Chile

For the modest, and I mean modest price ($7 for 1.5L), better than I expected, but not spectacular. A surprise considering I’ve gotten some spotty results from Chile lately
