The Evolution of American Culture

Founded on the culture of revolution in an effort to live free and amassing Europeans from nations who had somehow stripped their citizens of freedom and liberty, America became the nation of promise for the whole world. Our immigrants spoke all languages, worshipped many Gods making us the most diverse group of people to be found anywhere.

We won our first war against the British Empire and the whole world saw what a desire for freedom could accomplish. We formed a government based on a Constitutional Republic and picked up the freedoms listed in the Magna Charta with one difference; our laws could be amended as needed by a growing new nation.

The main problem we faced was the slaves imported against their will to work our fields and take care of our homes. Our founding fathers did not believe these people were somehow human and would never quality to own property or vote. We saw the same description for our American women. Was America designed and built for white, straight male Christians only? Are we heading back into this belief pattern today?

We went through a civil war and the civil rights movement to establish equality for African Americans and even the women who finally got the vote and could establish their own credit systems for buying and selling property. I learned all about the U.S. Constitution and how to amend the Bill of Rights when I was in Junior High School. It was a long hard process to write an Amendment to the Constitution but it was worth all the effort. It was always assumed that our elected officials would keep their oath to the U.S. Constitution and never bring political policies or religious ideologies into the picture.

Are we again heading back to the loss of freedoms for African Americans as we saw exhibited after Katrina? Are we seeing the rights of women dissolving in America as the choice of family size is removed from our individual wives and mothers?

When did America start going backwards? At what point did our new immigrants expect to receive the same welfare advantages as Americans who had paid into the system all of their working lives? The problem comes from our political leaders looking for votes and we have learned that they hold the power behind how our Constitutional laws are enforced.

My problem is concentrated on the American people themselves. We vote in the politicians and we are responsible for their actions! When did we become too lazy to check out their voting records? This is the point where I want to question what drives our American voters into giving up their rights to send messages to D.C. through their votes. It seems to me that entire culture of America has fallen into a near coma where the voters fall into following only their political leaders.

Why do we vote the way we do? I saw a blind faith being sold to America in 2000. I did not see a qualified candidate make it to the final election. I saw a man who could hardly express himself in his speeches and who had no plans for America except to write up a list of Amendments to the Constitution to shape up our moral values. This is apparently what American voters wanted. Did any of these voters realize the total failure of the Prohibition Amendment that brought a level of criminals into our streets making millions selling bootleg booze? When the Amendment was repealed the criminals turned to selling drugs. Did the War on Drugs stop a single kid from killing himself using these same drugs?

I saw the American families blame the government for their kids abusing drugs and I saw the American families blaming the schools for their kids living promiscuously. I saw the Christian churches step away from the whole social mess and start preaching “moderation” instead of training their congregations to take care of themselves and protect their children.

The American family returned to praying for their kids instead of setting strong rules for their kids to follow. 911 brought the first attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor and our President prayed! Had he thought a little about this he might have taken a look at the previous attacks from Islamic terrorists but he was too busy trying to control the growth of homosexuality in America. The damn fool never was told that homosexuals are as old on this earth as the heterosexuals. We elected a man who knew nothing of the world or the human development of mankind. He read somewhere in the bible that God hated men who slept with men and that was enough to start an action against all gays that would make them live on the edge of the law. He did the same thing to stop women from aborting a fetus. This is what the American voters wanted and this is what they got!

The Taliban was training their young men, developing a force of terrorists to take over the infidels of the world. It is yet to be discovered who they hate more Christians or Jews; all had to go! I little research soon discovered that America had armed these terrorists when they were fighting Russia. It all goes back to America being unable to keep our noses out of the nations of others.

How did we ever get ourselves into this mess? Is America developing a terrorist group which might mean Islamic cells here at home? Are we allowing our government to remove many of our American freedoms so they can swoop down and build their American Empire? Does anyone doubt that this is what President Bush‘s father had in mind with his “One World Order?” I see the whole Bush/Clinton/Bush Administrations’ working on this Empire building plan.

How are they selling this to the American voters? In the last 50 years of my political history shows that each year fewer and fewer Americans vote. Then elections get near, it is impossible to start a dialog with any group on the subject. “I hate politics! I will never discuss politics with anyone” and the final insult is “I don’t vote because they are all crooks!”

From a group of revolutionary fighters we have evolved into millions of people too damn lazy to see where America is going. I’ve had nightmares of seeing Jefferson and Franklin sobbing in their lace handkerchiefs over what America has become. Our American voters are not pacifists which I would feel must come from the churches. No, they have evolved into non-thinkers very heavy on praying. Can they believe that praying will bring their sons and daughters home?

I believe in evolution of the human brain. Did we reach our ultimate goal during the American Revolution? Did we renew our brain activity during WW1 and WW2 only to lose it when we hit Korea and Vietnam? Was it at that time we gave up our American glory and began to sink into a mass of people with insufficient brains to work on restoring America to full freedoms?

I saw the voters slide into a nanny state in the 60s and the growth of Socialism under LBJ that tripled the size of our government and the size of our debt. I saw the destruction of our academic curriculum in the 60s that forced many of us to open private schools just to teach the 3 Rs.

My concern is with America today. There is no doubt that the religious right is strongly influencing our Government. They want our public schools to teach the bible and Intelligent Design instead of the history of American greatness. Science is being downsized and the Arts are nowhere to be found. They will spend millions trying to convince kids raised on the horrors of television to stop sexual activity and overnight return to the days of abstinence. I feel as if their brains have been put on hold and they might want to spend more time with their kids and less on relying on prayer to fix their problems.

Americans are apparently not using their brains in raising their kids or in the voting booths of America. Their kids can’t read well and their kids can’t even express themselves verbally let alone in writing form. Are we seeing the downside of Evolution? What goes up can also come down.

In order to have humans stay at the top of the ladder, they must keep developing their brains. My question to my readers is “has praying taken the development of the human brain out of our progression? “ Will we return to the days of the dark ages where we have to look at one tribal leader for our actions?

America has ended up being represented by two political parties. We are facing a terrible decision in our next election. We have a major mess in Iraq and we are depending on two political parties to do something about it. On one hand we have the Democrats who cannot come up with a single logical way to stop the fighting in Iraq and the Republican Majority who refuse to even discuss it. In my mind, our evolution just slipped half way down the ladder of our progression.

This is not a good thing.
